The Artist
Meet BettyJean
BettyJean Munnerlyn is a multi-medium artist based in Akron, Ohio. Her work spans tattoo artistry, resin craft, painting, and sculpture — each discipline feeding the others in unexpected ways.
Art by Ruby & Co is the studio where all of those threads come together. Every piece that leaves this workshop carries the same philosophy: make it by hand, make it bold, make it last.
From Tattoo Chair to Art Studio
It started with ink. BettyJean spent years as a tattoo artist, learning how to translate a client's vision into something permanent on skin. That training — precision under pressure, color theory in real time, the intimacy of one-on-one creation — shaped everything she does now.
But skin is just one canvas. BettyJean started experimenting with resin, drawn to the way it captures light and color in three dimensions. What began as a side project became a full creative practice: live-edge tables with rivers of epoxy, handmade domino sets in swirling palettes, coasters that look like geode cross-sections.
"I don't separate my mediums. A resin pour teaches me about color flow the same way tattooing taught me about negative space. It all connects."
The "Ruby" in Art by Ruby & Co isn't a person — it's a color. That deep, jewel-tone red that runs through BettyJean's work like a signature. You'll find it in the resin rivers, the paint strokes, the custom dice. It's the thread that ties everything together.
Why "& Co"?
BettyJean works alone, but the "Co" represents everyone who's part of the creative process — the clients who bring ideas, the friends who test the dominos, the family who gathers around the tables. Art by Ruby & Co is a one-woman operation, but the art doesn't exist without the community that inspires it.
Every piece is made to order. No assembly line, no mass production, no middlemen. Just BettyJean in her Akron studio, pouring resin, mixing paint, and building things that are meant to be lived with — not just looked at.
The Craft
Five Mediums, One Vision
Resin
Hand-poured epoxy in tables, trays, coasters, and game pieces. Each pour is unique — no two are ever alike.
Tattoo
Years of experience translating visions into permanent ink. The precision and artistry carry into every medium.
Painting
Bold acrylics on canvas. Abstract expressionism meets street-level energy. Color-forward, texture-rich work.
Sculpture
Three-dimensional pieces combining resin, metal, and wood. Art that occupies real space and demands attention.
Game Pieces
Custom dominos and dice sets. Functional art for game night — every set poured and finished by hand.
